Vascular effects of Infection in Pediatric Stroke (VIPS)

VIPS II is an international multi-center NIH funded study that proposes to enroll 200 pediatric stroke cases and 200 pediatric stroke-free cases. Biological specimens, imaging, parent interviews and medical chart abstraction will be collected from all pediatric stroke cases. VIPS II aims to identify known and novel pathogens in children with AIS, and determine whether different pathogens (including unusual strains or combinations of pathogens) are associated with arteriopathic versus cardioembolic or idiopathic stroke.
